Exclusive Tailor-Made & Private Tours In the Himalayan Mountains
The Kingdom of Mustang: an authentic experience
Discover the core of the old hidden Buddhist kingdom of Mustang (“Mun Tan” meaning literally in Tibetan “the fertile land”). Since 1992, only limited numbers of trekkers explore this region of Nepal. Open to tourism since that date only, it conserves the local traditions and protects its fragile environment. Mustang lies to the northwest of the Annapurna range and extends onto the Tibetan Plateau. Its mountain range forms a frontier basin to Tibet.
Wild Yak Luxury exclusive Journey to Mustang
Wild Yak Luxury offers a unique circuit Trek around Mustang. To start with, a stunning mountain flight to Jomsom, then the crossing of passes above 4000 meters before entering Lo Manthang. The capital of Upper Mustang and a medieval city. On one hand, you discover the high Himalayan vegetation cultivated at around 3000 to 3500 meters and on the other hand the colourful monastic artistic treasures of the various ethical local groups. The mixture of Gurung, Lopa, Thakalis and Tibetan populations creates a unique atmosphere.
From Jomsom, a short drive brings us to picturesque stone-flagged villages surrounded by the high Himalayan apple orchards. We hike along the Kali Gandaki river, following the salt caravan route of the olden days, where the people of Mustang traded Tibetan salt with grain from the lowlands. At the beginning, the road goes through a breathtaking scenery of the wild and isolated region of the Mustang valley. Later, erroded canyons, narrow valleys, typical Tibetan villages, you discover Buddhist Gompas (monasteries) and cave monasteries in the cliffs. You are surrounded by some of the highest mountains of the Himalaya: Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m) and many other 7000-meter peaks such as Tilicho, Nilgiri, Annapurna II, III and IV, Tukcha and the holly Machhapuchara (or “Fishtail”).
